Octavo. 312pp. One of 325 copies. Twelve essays by Emerson printed in Doves type, with four-line initial capitals printed in red. This publication marked Cobden-Sanderson's honoring of a meeting he had in his youth with Emerson, whom the Doves Press proprietor "read and worshipped for some years." It is the only American text printed at Doves. This copy has been bound in full maroon morocco by the Doves Bindery, both panels featuring intersecting gilt rules within a tooled gilt border, and with open dots marking each right angle formed at the four corners. Spine in six compartments with title and rules in gilt. A.e.g. Small spot to front endpaper, several spots to rear endpaper, else a fine copy. (Tidcombe DP8)
