Oblong octavo. (8)ff. Passages from Tennyson's poem, "The Brook", printed in white on heavy black photo album stock, and illustrated with twelve color postcards from original photographs by Marie Hartig Kendall. A nurse by training, Kendall acquired her first camera in 1880 to photograph her children, which led to her finding her avocation. She would create over 30,000 negatives, many chronicling the area around Norfolk, Connecticut, where she lived. Kendall's photography earned her a bronze medal at the 1893 Columbian Exposition - the only woman to receive an award. Original string-bound folded heavy black album stock - notoriously brittle -- has had some expert reinforcement to the spine crease of the outer wrapper, else nearly fine.
