12mo., (24)pp. (wrappers included in pagination). Full-page frontispiece and four full-page illustrations from wood engravings. A curious assortment of short prose vignettes primarily aimed toward shaping the behavior of young readers, warning about such matters as the danger of playing tricks and keeping bad company, while playing up the virtues of honesty and hard work. The captioned full-page engravings - while visually striking and well-printed - bear almost no relationship to the text accompanying them, as is typical of children's books of this period. A surprisingly uncommon Babcock title, a scan of OCLC shows a single copy in California, while Gagliardi locates two additional examples at Connecticut Historical and Harvard. Uniform toning to tan printed wrappers; small unobtrusive spot along upper fore-edge margin. Overall a surprisingly bright and clean copy.
