Octavo. (26)ff. Wood's energetic calligraphy - hand-touched at every opportunity - explores the intertwined histories of the Western alphabet and the practice of writing. Proceeding methodically and playfully through the twenty-six letterforms, all of which occupy double-spreads, Wood guides his reader through something of an art historical tour, which references to Victorian woodblocks, the Baskerville typeface, David Jones and Eric Gill, Ben Shahn, and Hermann Zapf. Bound in rich purple paper over boards with title blind-embossed. Fine. Housed in dropback box. Laid in are two certificates of authenticity, an artist's statement, and a colophon in which Wood describes his approach to each letter.
