Oblong quarto. (8)ff. With six movable chromolithographs engineered by Meggendorfer, showing a small fairy princess's wondrous journey through the land of toys and other fantastical friends. One scene shows the princess's encounter with two sage Chinese figures, who are depicted in racially stereotypical aspect. Also issued by a French imprint, with the same mechanicals and line drawings. This appears to be a salesman's sample featuring a variant binding—in this case, from Meggendorfer's Travels of Little Lord Thumb—but with no printed text and showing the correct publisher's reference number stamped in lower right corner of upper cover. Overall a fine, bright example, with the pictorial boards only modestly toned and slightly rubbed at corners and spine. Text block staples have separated from case. Housed in custom dropback box.
