48mo. (ii), 84, (98)pp. A nicely printed and handily sized edition of Phaedrus's fables, organized into five sections. The printer, John Brindley, produced the occasional scientific text but built his reputation chiefly on reproducing the canonical highlights of Western literature, of which this is a worthy exemplar. In a contemporary binding of mottled calf with gilt rules to covers, two leather onlays to spine compartments and gilt flowers tooled elsewhere. Modest overall rubbing to edges and joints, thin strips of cellotape over biopredation at final leaves, else very good. Housed in custom solander box. All edges red.
