Spiral-bound folio. 14ff. Illustrated with photographs by Jurgen Schadeburg, Bob Gosani, G.R. Naidoo, and Leon Levson. These images depicting a who's-who of South African political and cultural figures from the 1950s, including singer Thandi Klaasen, Nelson Mandela (shown leaving the courthouse during his 1958 treason trial), a scene from the musical, Mkhumbane, and an image showing a young Hugh Masakela holding a trumpet given to him by Louis Armstrong. Several images also commemorate Sophiatown, the multi-racial district of Johannesburg that was destroyed under the apartheid regime in 1955. An unusual artifact from the early years of the post-apartheid era, and a fine example, housed in the original cardboard case which has the edition number written in gold ink on the upper flap.
