Imperial octavo. (x) (230) (12)pp. With a Prefatory Note by Oliver Simon. A type specimen book putting on exhibit all types in every size in use at the Curwen Press, including initial capitals. A small section displays over 100 typographical borders, followed by ornaments, headpieces and vignettes. The artists whose work is represented here include Claude Lovat Fraser, Albert Rutherson, Paul Nash, and others. The book concludes with a Catalogue Raisonné of the Press's output between 1926-27. Produced during the height of Curwen's powers, this pleasing work embodies the qualities for which the Press was rightly famous, while also providing a glimpse at the rich typographical storehouse and deep artistic talent behind that work. Bound in publisher's green cloth with leather lettering piece on spine, housed in a custom chemise and slipcase. Faintest toning to spine, else fine.
