Gorey's 61 illustrations frame the verses in perfect macabre humor. Belloc's Tales, which first saw publication in 1907, may well have influenced Gorey's own writings, including The Beastly Baby, The Gashlycrumb Tinies, and others. Included in this special issue is also the previously unpublished "Lord Lundy, Who was too Freely Moved to Tears and thereby ruined his Political Career", presented in unbound sheets and housed in a separate four-fold chemise. Both book and sheets housed in blue cloth slipcase and are fine.
