Octavo, (xii) (332)pp. Hewes's historical novel set in Portugal during the Age of Discovery was a Newbury Honor book for 1931. It shared a commonality with the Newbury Medal winner that year - Elizabeth Coatsworth's The Cat Who Went to Heaven - in that it, too, contains illustrations by Lynd Ward. Publisher's gilt-stamped red cloth shows a little rubbing and oxidation to the gilt decorations, otherwise nearly fine in dust wrapper that has some reinforcement to verso and a touch of coloring to spine head.
