Folio. (18)pp. Each page is fully printed from a single, tremendous woodcut in one to four colors. Dutertre's comic, borderline dada narrative brings the classic trope of a hero saving a woman from a dastardly villain into the realm of the zoo. The brave hero saves the woman from a tiger, but is nowhere to be found later on when a nefarious figure accosts her: she must be rescued by a morally conscious elephant. Sheets unbound and thus interchangeable. Held in printed wrapper with further illustrations to aid the story. Modest overall rubbing along margins, else near fine and institutionally unrecorded.
