12mo. 356pp. The first English edition of this collection of fables by Elizabethan translator Arthur Golding, who is best known for his translation of Ovid's Metamorphoses that was so influential to Shakespeare. With etchings by Marcus Gheeraerts from Mythologia Ethica of Arnold Freitag (1579), the Latin source for this translation. Transcribed and edited from the autograph manuscript (1586) in the Columbia University Library with an Introduction, Notes and Glossary by Richard G. Barnes. Fine in three-quarter brown bonded leather, with gold accents and gold spine label.
