Folio. 21pp + 10 inserted plates. Commissioned as a memorial to John Moran, director of the University of Nebraska - Lincoln School of Music from 1972 to 1977, Synder's quintet takes a cinematographic approach to music. Each composition follows its own narrative, which together form a temporal and sonic montage. Ruffo's illustrations in black, white, and blue visualize the movements of the score, in a method similar to that of Cy Twombly, but here with a much more practiced and analytic style. Bound in full black cloth over boards with small illustration as onlay to upper cover. Pale rubs to boards and faint dampstain to inner corner of text block running through sheets, else vg+ in slipcase, which shows fraying.
