Folio. (14)ff. Each sheet sports chromolithographs, which the young reader would presumably cut out and re-paste elsewhere, into a more personal configuration. The volume opens with a portrait of the royal family, with Victoria and Albert presiding over six of their children, and hence the dating of the edition to about 1850, when their seventh child, Arthur, was born. Another portrait shows a young Edward VII, in ceremonial garb. Other images depict outdoor activities like salmon fishing, various occupational costumes, and a range of fowl and fauna. The final sheet shows four comical illustrations, including "preparations for a feast in the sixteenth century," which is, in actuality, the moments just before a murder. Bound in illustrated yellow paper over boards backed in brown leather. Evidence of repair to hinges at front and rear endpapers, probable additional paper repair to outer edge of front cover, extremities rubbed and corners bumped, and German insurance information stamped at lower board (an odd addition). Expected offsetting and foxing to interior, but images quite bright. Good. Unrecorded in OCLC and unknown to the Darton bibliography.
