16mo. 60, (4)pp. Engraved title page, plus 27 additional engraved plates. Each episode in England's long history received its own illustration, composed to face the relevant narrative text. After a brief preface by the publisher granting credence to the Celts, events begin with the arrival of William the Conqueror, thence to the Crusades, the signing of the Magna Carta, the Battle of Bosworth Field, the Guy Fawkes incident, and concluding with the Battle of Culloden. Bound in original boards covered with pink paper and engraved onlays to upper and lower panels. Covers generally soiled and rubbed, spine creased, probable professional repair to head and tail of spine, else good+ with a bright interior and quite sturdy. Very scarce, with only one copy listed in institutional holdings. Previous owner's signature to front pastedown.
