Folio. 24ff. Text printed lithographically by George Miller & Son in red and black; illustrated with twelve woodcuts by Frasconi, printed from the blocks in red and black. English translation laid in printed by the Spiral Press in black on red paper. Likely produced in conjunction with Frasconi's 1962 show at Tony Dintenfass Gallery, this powerful work employs Frasconi's jagged. expressionistic style to give Brecht's antifascist text its fullest impact. These large cuts - one spanning two non-contiguous sheets - also hearken back to Frasconi's early years in Uruguay, during which he contributed political caricatures of European fascist leaders to Marcha -- which Nat Hentoff called "one of the most influential periodicals in all of Latin America." This work also includes Frasconi's portrait of Brecht, which saw its first public exhibition at the Dintenfass show, and which serves as the frontispiece. Given the rather small edition size, copies of this work rarely appear on the market, and it has not been offered for sale at auction. Slight wrinkling to front endleaf, else fine in cloth-backed board portfolio covered in red paper printed lithographically in black and white, and housed in a board box stamped with Frasconi's mandala on upper cover in black, and on the inside rear panel in red. Fine. (Frasconi Against the Grain, pp. 69-80).
