Tall octavo. (110)pp. Frontispiece of Maugham's bust in photogravure. Maugham's controversial short story about incest, which found a publication outlet via Giuseppe Orioli's imprint, which is best-known for bringing out the first edition of D.H. Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover four years earlier. Buff linen cloth backed pale blue boards with Maugham's cipher printed in red on upper cover. Outer edges of boards show light fading; overall, near fine in mildly toned dust wrapper that shows some shallow chipping and a few closed tears at extremities.
