The selection of titles in this set conforms to Moon (430), who notes that Harris advertised that "The Public are not... obliged to take certain books only, but may make their choice from a numerous and respectable collection." Several titles within this set are uncommon by themselves; OCLC notes a single example of the box without the volumes at Osborne. In the publisher's binding of red roan-backed marbled boards, titling in gilt on spines. Some wear to box; sliding lid some some rubbing to engraved element; one finial repaired, the other lacking the top section. A near fine set in a very good box.
