Small quarto. Seven four-page, frenchfold sections printed in gampi papers. Schanilec's "illustrated concept of journalism" conveys his ruminations on the early months of the COVID pandemic and the physical, psychological, and political fragmentation of the moment. The textual and visual analogy to a "murder" of crows - the book's tagline is "Novel Corvid" - uncannily describes the ways the Trump administration and the deep schisms in American culture wielded the global crisis to "kill" progressive momentum and the rights of the under-served, including the medically vulnerable and the working classes designated as emergency personnel. Included are quips from the news cycle, among them references to the rapid rise in COVID deaths, the cagey jargon of the United States government branches, and a quote from Amanda Gorman. With an original printing of "Novel Corvid" entombed in the back panel of the case. Citations appear at the final sheet. All held in chitsu case lined in red cloth and covered in black. Fine.
