Oblong small quarto. Title page + six heavy paper leaves each containing between one and fourteen paper samples - 46 in total. The Günther papermill was part of the Greiz papermaking community since 1808, and it largely served the textile and tobacco industries. The present sample book marks the firm's expansion into decorative and fantasy paper, prompted by the founder's sons, Otto and Felix - the latter of whom is credited by some with the invention of crepe paper in 1909. The present sample book consists of pulp-dyed paper which lend to a soft marbling effect; and it notably includes a variety called "X-Strahlen," or X-ray, which present as if viewing a cellular structure under a microscope. Laid in is a TLs from Otto Günther to the Nees & Co. paper company in Aschaffenburg. Dated 1936, it contains a price list for a selection from another sample book. Much of the Günther firm's output is held at the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek Leipzig and seemingly nowhere else. Bound in embossed heavy card wrappers, the mottled pattern of which bears some resemblance to one of the samples listed in this book. Minor bumping to corners, small rust stain from a paperclip on the upper verso of title page. Nearly fine overall.
