Six 16rpm vinyl records, sleeved together in publisher's booklet. The present copy is advertised as Part I of an unabridged audiobook of Thoreau's masterwork, read by acclaimed actor John Carradine. The booklet doubles as a brief literary introduction to Thoreau and American Transcendentalism (that close kin to British Romanticism), including a note on Thoreau by Havelock Ellis, and as a promotional vehicle for the Audio Book Company's other offerings, among which are The Trial of Socrates, The Sonnets of William Shakespeare, and The Wizard of Oz. A cassette reissue of this recording was released in 1983, but this original pressing appears scarce on the market. Modest edgewear to sleeves, records all in fine shape.
