Small folio. 235, (i)pp. Illustrated with linocut prints by Rimmer: nine of which are full-page, multicolor cuts, and 55 are text figures printed in a single color that echoes "the colour of the Mississippi at Hannibal." Printed in Duensing Titlling and Hannibal Oldstyle - both designed by Rimmer, and the latter being a typeface designed especially for this work, and named in honor of Twain's birthplace. In an article that appeared in Parenthesis 9, Paul Razzell states that the Pie Tree Press Tom Sawyer is "one of those rare books in which the soul of the maker is expressed in every detail." From the bespoke typeface, which Rimmer designed to run on the Monotype composition caster - a feat that had never been done outside of the Monotype company, to the design and execution of the binding, Twain's work has never been so eloquently captured in print. Adding a further element of typographical significance, this copy was formerly owned by the private typecaster, Greg Walters, with a note from Rimmer laid in thanking Walters for his "Faith, Patience & Support." Bound by Rimmer in cloth-backed boards, fittingly covered in a frog patterned paper. Housed in what appears to be Rimmer's original shipping container of wood and chipboard. A very fine copy of a work that rarely appeared on the market.
