Rounding out the full picture of the bibliography's production is another copy of the book, this in a trial binding and with trial jacket, Chambers's enormous and meticulous journal, a large stack of production correspondence and reviews, and a complete collection of every original metal stamp for the interior illustrations. His records confirm (or deny) the breadth and depth of Golden Cockerel's catalogue, enough match the undertaking of the Press itself. The journal provides the personal view of the bibliographer at his task, and the social, economic, and technical view comes into focus through the collection of correspondence, catalogues, prospectuses, proofs, and trial elements. The conditions of the bibliographical enterprise thus align quite suitably with the undertaking of any book, with the added complications of the already complex matters of printing with the bibliographers himself may or may not have done. Accompanying all this are three binding dummies, each in the decided blue cloth over boards but with the title in different colors. Materials all fine or thereabouts.
