12mo. (8)ff. A mockup of the deluxe edition in boards, together with a copy of the published edition in wrappers. Arno Werner bound the deluxe edition of twenty-five copies in green marbled paper-covered boards. The mockup shows only the text that is printed in black, while the published edition has the full text and ornaments printed in black, red, and green. The mockup also has four blank leaves inserted in the middle. As stated on the colophon, this was the first in a series of single poems and letters, tracts, and broadsides published by David R. Godine. Before Godine established himself as a well-known publisher, he printed exquisite little books under his own name. This is one of the earliest of these private printings, using the facilities of the Gehenna Press, where he apprenticed. Bound in parchment-backed marbled boards, with paper label to cover. Some rubbing to covers. Nearly fine.
