Oblong 12mo. 18pp. Frontispiece wood engraving by Pissarro printed in five colors and evoking the threads of pastoralism and nostalgia woven in Verhaeren's poems. Pissarro also contributed the fourteen initials, all printed in peach except the very first, which appears in both peach and green. The Belgian poet Emile Verhaeren is considered one of the founders of Symbolism, here lending his aesthetic attitude into harmonious relation with Pissarro's European Arts & Crafts and Japanese motifs. A handsome and keenly executed publication, bound in patterned paper boards backed in plain paper. Mild foxing throughout, more to p. 7, boards show minor toning to extremities and light spotting near spine. A very good copy overall.
