16mo. 384pp. To this second printing of this idiosyncratic adaptation of the New Testament is added an illustration of the Holy Family's flight from Egypt and a map of St. Paul's routes throughout the Mediterranean. Printed via lithography is the phonetic shorthand developed by Isaac Pitman (no apparent relation to the publisher). Pitman was a staunch advocate for spelling reform, a larger movement born out of the public education movement of the 19th century and the increasing emphasis on spelling standardization in the English language. Bound in half black leather with marbled paper over boards. Modest rubbing to edges and joints, else very good or better. All edges speckled red. Bookseller's tag to front pastedown and former owner's date inscription to rear.
