Octavo. 14pp. Printed in blue is Hughes's poem, which he wrote with the express purpose of a live, radio debut reading. Broadway actor Paul Muni read the poem on March 15, 1943 "from 3:45 to 4:00 P.M. Eastern War Time," a subtle complement to Hughes's more strident, hopeful wartime verses. These expressly tie the war effort to Emancipation and the freedom of slaves everywhere. Bound in plain printed wrappers. Light soiling overall, some rubs along extremities, else very good.
