Octavo. (93)pp. A very scarce edition of Camus's four-act play, which deployed the perverse existentialism of Camus's other work (especially The Stranger and The Myth of Sisyphus) to rehearse the demise of the Roman Emperor Caligula. Camus's inscription affectionately deems Karsh the Rembrandt of photographers. A fascinating meeting between two artists never far removed from their roots in colonized countries, Camus in Algeria and Karsh in Armenia. Date taken from the other extant Arabic edition, printed in Beirut. Bound in printed wrappers. Wrappers modestly soiled and rubbed along edges. Adhesive of perfect binding beginning to give way, but otherwise sturdy. Very good.
