Octavo. 712pp. Frontispiece photograph of Twain, plus numerous illustrations throughout showing the journeyman on his equatorial escapade. Without the signature mark at p. 161, and with only the single Hartford imprint at the title page. Bound in full blue cloth over boards with gilt spine-titling and elephant illustration in color at front panel. Edges modestly rubbed, hinge between frontispiece and title page cracked but quite secure (the former is the end of the first gathering), p. 703 wrinkled. Else a very good copy, and prouder than usual for a book apt to sag under its own weight. (BAL 3451)
