16mo. (18)ff. Letterpress-printed to each page is an excerpt from a text by Morris - an 1882 essay, his 1859 "Summer Dawn," or select aphorisms - arranged to display a letter of the alphabet. The letters at the rectos are made of negative space in the text itself, while those at versos are in reverse, with text as body. An impressive, subtle effort in fragmentary printing: the colophon notes that the alphabetical shapes were made by "masking out" the type. Bound by Mike Fitzgerald in half green leather with handmade paper over boards. Stray rubs, else fine.
