24mo. (8)ff. Only half the usual edition count issued by the press. Diego is mainly remembered for his belief that fairy tales - many of which he translated himself or incorporated into his poetry - were critical for the education of the Cuban population after the 1959 Revolution. Here he has applied that concept to José Martí, leader of the 1895 Revolution, in his titular poem, as well as to broader questions of place and belonging in his other poem presented here, "Donde." Among the earlier and scarcest issuances from the press, with covers and title page in manuscript. Bound in tan wrappers of fragile glassine, with twine along spine. Wrapper generally chipped along edges and lightly toned. The cellotape running along the back cover is intentional, if unadvisable, applied by the Press to fix the inherent vice of the material; this also splitting but nevertheless sturdy. A good copy and quite rare regardless.
