Small quarto. (24)ff, with leaves of various dimensions. A stylistically, materially, and textually organic study in plants, Leavitt's manuscript extends the science of botany to letterforms, inks, and stencils. These last replicate a leaf from a green ash, a native plant found along the Stillwater River. Branching across these is Leavitt's swashing, crossing text, derived from Bryan Capon's Botany for Gardeners and a plant taxonomy list from the 8th edition of M. L. Fernaud's Gray's Manual of Botany. A study in green and greenery. Bound in green fabrics over boards. Housed in dropback box. Fine.
