14pp. This English translation of Borges's poem, by Alastair Reid, opens with a large initial illuminated with gold leaf and the center spread is illustrated with an engraving of a library and mystic symbols from Egyptian, Mayan, and other cultures. At the end of the text is an anamorphic portrait of Borges, revealed with the assistance of a fold-out, curved mylar mirror activated by a pull tab. Houle writes that this is the first anamorphic portrait to be incorporated into a miniature book, and that the use of a mirror is significant since they held special meaning for Borges as "emblems of the other, of the double, of what could happen on the other side of reality." Bound in cream, gray, and black paper with a scrolling ironwork design, accented with gold, backed in black cloth. The book closes with black ribbon ties on the fore-edge, with the title and author printed in gold on the ends. Fine. Winner of the 2008 Distinguished Book Award from the Miniature Book Society.
