Color poster. Sponsored by the Comitè Central d'Ajutals Refugiats de Catalunya, Martí-Bas' moving image of hands outstretched toward a mother and child fleeing from airplanes sums up the dangers and devastations faced by refugees during the Spanish Civil War; the present poster calls for aid through the purchase of stamps. The poster's highly modern visual and typographic style emphasizes the immediacy of the crisis. Such was the case for all Martí-Bas' work, especially his many poster designs produced during the Civil War, in which antifascism and modernist design principles went handsomely and provocatively in hand. Edges and corners quite crisp and clean, editorial pencil marking to verso, else fine. (13 by 9 in.)
