Wood engraving on paper, indicated by Gill in pencil as the third state. O'Connor was among the core figures in the Catholic revivalism among British modernists, responsible for the conversions of G. K. Chesterton and David Jones. O'Connor translated Jacques Maritain's "Art et Scholastique," in which Maritain argued for the making of art as a theological, even mystical, principle; naturally, it became a significant text both to Gill and to Jones. Motes of foxing, else very good+. Matted and framed. Verso of frame bear label of The Boydell Galleries of Liverpool, on which is a note which reads, "given by Evan Gill - 1964."
