Small octavo. (54)pp. A picture of a black doll pasted to the front cover is the only illustration. Gorey's screenplay pays homage to the silent films he admired - in particular the films D.W. Griffith directed for Biograph Studios in Fort Lee, NJ. This is a very fine copy in publisher's black boards, housed in the original slipcase. Although not indicated, this copy is from the library of Alison Lurie, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Gorey's longtime friend.
