72 cards illustrated in color show the heads, torsos, and legs of familiar fairy tale figures, from Cinderella to Little Red Riding Hood to Goldilocks. The cards are organized into sets (Cinderella, for example, includes the Fairy Godmother and the Prince) so that in the course of a game a player can win tricks by completing not only the figures themselves but also the sets, or suits, to which they belong. This set is apparently unknown to Faulkner & Co. reference guides. The rounded card edges and verso graphic indicate that this is an early issue deck. Contains a stereotyped depiction of the Prince of Barbary in the Dick Whittington set (see https://blogs.princeton.edu/cotsen/2022/05/whittington-and-his-cat-the-encounter-between-cultures-illustrated/ for background on how this depiction evolved over time). Mild soiling and creasing to cards, all of which with uniform backs, and edge rubbing commensurate with use. A near fine set in a near fine, supplied carton with Cinderella herself as paper label. Lacking instruction sheet. 3 3/4 x 2 3/4 in.
