Octavo, 98pp. First edition. Illustrated throughout with line drawings by Júlio Resende. This tale of a dachshund who loses his luxe living situation and experiences a succession of misadventures and other owners before befriending a young boy is the author's third book for children. Her work in this genre would be rewarded with the Prémio Gulbenkian de Literatura Infantil in 1984. A German of Jewish descent, Losa (née Lieblich), fled Nazi persecution in 1934 and settled in Porto, where her brother lived. The following year, she married the architect Arménio Taveira Losa and joined the Associação Feminina Portuguesa para a Paz, (Portuguese Women's Peace Association—AFPP), an apolitical and non-religious association of anti-fascist and anti-war women. In addition to children's books and novels, Losa published articles in a variety of newspapers, which is likely how she crossed paths with Pereira, who is considered the dean of Portuguese journalists. Publisher's printed wrappers show light soiling to extremities, corners a trifle bumped. Overall, a near fine association copy of Losa's most popular book for children, which went through at least ten editions.
