21 placards + advertising poster. Each placard is designed to fulfill the dimensional remit for transportation displays for buses, subways, and streetcars. An immense material and literary undertaking, the placards brought art to the people in many of America's major metropolises, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Phoenix, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia. Produced by Winston Network, Inc. and Transportation Displays, it proved a long-running success, operating from 1984 to 1997. This selection represents its middle years, with the spring issues of volumes V, VI, and VII. Each issue comprises six placards (one per set here in duplicate), each pairing a modern poet with a modern artist. For volume V: Cid Corman (duplicate), Bob Kaufman, Octavio Paz, Lucille Clifton, Genny Lim, and Charles Bukowski, with Joe Sam, Sam Francis, George McNeil, Miriam Schapiro, Kenneth Nolan, and Roy de Forest. For volume VI: Linda Hogan (duplicate), George Evans, Nanao Sakaki, Victor Hernandez Cruz, Jimmy Santiago Baca, and Rosario Casetllanos, with Hon Sum Kwok, Jake Berthot, Sachio yamashita, Larry Poons, and Li Hua. For volume VII: Jack Marshall (duplicate), Jayne Cortez, Diane di Prima, Michael Smith, Gary De Soto, and Elizabeth Bishop, with James Rosenquist, Frank Stella, James Cobb, Maria Baca, and Robert Goodnough. A fine set with minimal bumps to edges. Placards all measure 11 by 28 in.; advertising poster measures 11 by 14 in.
