16mo. xiii, 243pp. Kent's first book, here as the first Modern Library edition, produced ten years after the true first issuance. The intervening decade saw Kent rise in public renown as one of the premier American illustrators, appreciated for his ability to convey a transcendental and natural feeling in modern, borderline Art Deco style. In an unusual, no doubt bespoke binding of full black morocco over boards, with gilt-stamped title to spine and marbled endpaper (original illustrated endpapers preserved). A pleasant gift treatment. With date stamp to title page. It is entirely possible that the stamp marks a discharge from the publisher directly. Fine, in slipcase.
