The game consists of the following components: bifolium instruction sheet; the sheet containing the game board, printed and hand-colored; one book: Description de differens peuples remarquables des cinq parties du monde, by Jean Wolfgang Muller and Jean George Klinger. Nuremberg, Klinger, 1811. Stated third edition. Small bifolium laid in with a hand-colored map of the world. There are also five variously colored paper sleeves, each bearing a roman numeral and the name of a part of the world, and containing a hand-colored map of the area, as well as a total of 32 hand-colored cards showing the people from each part of the world. Also with what appears to be an original dice, which is pictured on the game board and factors into the instructions. Complete and extremely rare thus. Additionally, this may be the earliest geographical game to contain descriptions and images of the indigenous people of Australia, New Zealand and the South Sea islands. Johann Georg Klinger (1764-1806) is considered one of the last great globe makers of Nuremberg. He co-authored the book that is included with this game, though it was first published by itself in 1801. There are no records that Klinger put his imprimatur to any other type of geographical game apart from one recorded example of a German version of this game, published in 1813. The game is designed to be played in three different ways: as a game of commerce; as an instructional game; and as an entertainment involving "pleasant" rewards and penalties. Slight wear and soiling to original box, which has a colored title panel on the lid, the sides consisting of red textured paper with gilt decorations. The contents are fine and bright.
