Nine 12mo volumes housed in wooden bookcase with decorative pictorial sliding lid. The eight titles comprising this set include: The Twin Brothers; or Virtue and Vice Contrasted. London: T. Hurst, 1802. (iv) (126) (ii)pp. Engraved frontispiece; "Tom Telescope." The Newtonian System of Philosophy, Explained by Familiar Objects... London: Oglivy et.al., 1806. "New, improved edition"  (viii) (136)pp. Frontispiece and three plates from copper engravings, and numerous text figures; "Reverend Mr. Cooper." A New History of England; from the Earliest Period to the Present Time. London: Harris et.al., 1807. Fourteenth edition. 252pp. Engraved frontispiece; "Mrs. Pilkington." New Tales of the Castle; or, the Noble Emigrants. London; Harris, 1803. Second edition. (216)pp. Engraved frontispiece; "Reverend Mr. Cooper." A New History of the Grecian States, from Their Earliest Period to Their Extinction by the Ottomans. London: Harris, 1807. (viii) (136). Engraved frontispiece. "Reverend Mr. Cooper." A New Roman History, from the Foundation of Rome to the End of the Commonwealth. London, Harris. 1807. (viii), 136pp. Engraved frontispiece; Tales of the Hermitage; Written for the Instruction and Amusement of the Rising Generation. London: Harris, 1807. Fourth Edition. (iv) (212)pp. Engraved frontispiece; The Curiosities of London and Westminster Described. London: Harris, (1805). 2 volumes: 198; (214)pp. Frontispiece and five plates from copper engravings in each volume. The selection of titles in this set conforms to Moon (430), who notes that Harris advertised that "The Public are not... obliged to take certain books only, but may make their choice from a numerous and respectable collection." Several titles within this set are uncommon by themselves; OCLC notes a single example of the box without the volumes at Osborne. In the publisher's binding of red roan-backed marbled boards, titling in gilt on spines. Some wear to box; sliding lid some some rubbing to engraved element; one finial repaired, the other lacking the top section. A near fine set in a very good box.
