(62)pp. From an edition of 90, this is one of ten deluxe copies. An original story about a winter trip written in Japanese by Miyako Akai, who also designed the book, with editing and translation into English by Larry Seidman. Circles have been cut out of the pages between the Japanese and English texts to reveal interleaved paper snowflakes pasted onto thin sheets of gampi paper. Hand-set and letterpress printed by Hiroshi Miki onto Japanese papers. In a Japanese stab binding by Akai with washi paper wrappers dyed with woodsmoke and indigo. A little metal key hangs from the sewing on the rear cover, which corresponds to a door in the box, a feature of the deluxe edition. The door, whose knob is a rhinestone, opens to reveal a campfire surrounded by a constellation map and little silver paper cutout snowflakes. The book fits into the top of the box with a pull-off lid. The box is covered in cedar bark paper with frost-like glitter applied to the outside, echoing the wintery theme of the book. Altogether fine. (2 3/8 by 2 3/8; 60x60mm).
