The first of Pickering's famous "Diamond Classics" to be published in English, the edition includes a 54-page glossary. This later printing lacks the frontispiece and 37 engraved plates. Only a few sets had the plates, which were lost early on. The Pickering Shakespeare also has the distinction of being one of the first examples of a publisher's cloth binding (see Bromer/Edison, p.50). In the original publisher's purple cloth bindings, which show uniform fading to tan. A very nice set, with a few chips to spine labels, and soft bumps to corners. (Bondy pp. 88-9; Spielmann 456; Mikrobiblion 220). (3 7/16 by 2 1/16; 87x53mm.).
