32mm. bezel and black leather strap. Case cover engraved with title and Gorey's signature, as well as noting a "Swiss parts movement." The face features the central figure from one of Gorey's best-known works: the odd bird-like figure sporting a striped scarf ad high-top sneakers. The Doubtful Guest first made his appearance in 1957 "standing on top of an urn" in Gorey's third published book; and after more than fifty years and numerous reprints of this book, "(i)t has shown no signs of going away." One end of the red and white striped scarf moves along with the second hand. While other Gorey-themed timepieces have appeared on the market, we could find no examples of this particular watch on the marketplace. Tested and fully functional the watch appears to have never been worn. Housed in the original foam packaging with a sliding clear plastic cover, also bearing a reproduction of Gorey's signature, and with a plain white cardboard wrap-around sleeve. Together with: a copy of the printed book. New York: Dodd, Mead, (1978). First printing of this reissue. Near fine in like jacket.
