This portfolio contains seventeen illustrated octavo cards, including the title page. Among the personages pictured are a woman in evening dress, a sinister looking man with a mustache in a dark coat and hat, and the Doubtful Guest, from the story of the same name. Unbound, as issued, in green printed wrappers. Housed in the original yellow-green illustrated envelope, which shows some faint soiling to rear. Although not indicated, this copy is from the library of Alison Lurie, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Gorey's longtime friend.
