Oblong 12mo. 17ff. Gorey translated this cautionary tale against animal cruelty written by the obscure French satirist, Allais. In addition to founding a club for those afraid of water, Allais edited the satirical magazine Chat Noir and, in 1897, wrote one of the earliest serious silent musical compositions - Funeral March for the Obsequies of a Great Deaf Man. A fine copy in printed yellow wrappers. Although not indicated, this copy is from the library of Alison Lurie, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and Gorey's longtime friend.
