Octavo. 60pp. Reproductions of Hidy's poster designs throughout are supplemented by actual pasted-in stamps executed under his eye. To pair the two formats accentuates Hidy's immense skill with the former and its translation to the latter, which here is proven of an artistic level far transcending its ephemerality. At the very beginning is a 5-cent stamp which Leonard Baskin designed to feature a portrait of Henry David Thoreau, which debuted in 1967 and which initiated Hidy's first fascinations with the form. This is followed by Chris Van Allsburg's 1997 Helping Children Learn stamp, which many mistook for Hidy's own work. His first philatelic contribution in fact came with the 2002 Mentoring a Child, explained here according to art theory, colorwork, and all the various other considerations which make up an artist's perceptual and aesthetic apparatus. Bound in pastepaper over boards by Sarah Creighton. Fine. Together with a copy of the trade edition.
