Assembled here are stories, essays, and photographs which together chart the literary and pictorial history of gay Black men in America. Heralded by Langston Hughes, the stories address the double-consciousness, and often double-alienation, of gay Black men, with particular attention to, and celebration of, interracial relationships. The compendium is groundbreaking in its subject matter and frankness; it is startling to know that many of the authors would only a few years after publication become victims of the AIDS Crisis. Photographs throughout by a number of artists, many from Sierra Domino, a collective at the forefront of men's physique photography in the 1970s. Specially bound in quarter black and white-striped cloth with white paper over boards. The Gay Sunshine Press facilitated the dissemination of gay men's prose and poetry throughout late 20th century, chiefly in periodicals and paperbacks. Their deluxe editions are scarce. Fine.
