Octavo. 55pp. With wood engravings by Ward printed in blue to mark the start of each section. Austin's excursus on prayer is less an exercise in theology or dogma than a contemplation on the nature of contemplation itself, between the individual and his or her personal deity. Austin was among the notable Western American writers during the first half of the 20th century and took up residence among her peers who had settled in New Mexico. Famously, she collaborated with Ansel Adams on Taos Pueblo, which took the American photobook tradition then blooming to apply to Indigenous Americans in the Southwest. Bound in full black cloth over boards stamped in silver. Fine in fine dust wrapper, only lightly soiled. Surprisingly scarce.
